I have been thinking about how to reinforce the top of the dome. Thick [scrap] aluminium seemed like a good idea. Except that it would be very difficult to bend to the complex, faceted, spherical form required. Besides, it would be highly visible against the grass green of the dome.
Then it suddenly occurred to me that I had a large sheet of [dome] fiberglass from the observation slit cutout. It won't reach past the actual width of the slit of course. But, cut in half it would form two, closely fitting, L-shapes to wrap around the top "corners" of the slit cut-out. It would even match the spacing of the facets. Bonding a sandwich of glass matt between the two layers of GRP would probably help to ensure maximum strength and adhesion.
My Titebond wood glue never arrived from Amazon! It was out for delivery on the 28th May. Nothing after than on the tracking.

First image. Seeing is thermally "wobbly." Little to see on the monitor
or even after Autostakkert stacking. ImPPG brought out the fine detail.
AR12829 continues to amaze.
10.54 61F Transparency improving but strangely over-sharpened effect when opened in ImPPG.
11.00 Transparency improving occasionally.
11.25 Unusually sharp images.
11.39 63F. Changed to 2.6x GPC to match the improved seeing.
I shall have to split this post at 12.00 to make room for more images.
