Saturday 4th Jan 2020: Some sunshine!

*

I am being teased with promises of sunny periods but the cloud keeps getting in the way. I want to try out the mounting after the major changes. I suppose I can do that without tracking on the invisible sun. Better to be ready. Than to have the sun and the mounting misbehaving. Balance in all planes is always important for reliable slews.

11:36  I have been lucky and enjoyed a clear stretch of sky to capture some videos of the AR at lower left on the disk. Not so lucky in turning the videos into decent images. The tracking is out because I haven't aligned the mounting. Though the mounting feels very solid, stiff and responsive without the 7" fitted.

Strong thermal agitation despite contrasty surface detail. I'm getting 430fps at 640x480 from the ZWO ASI174! I am capturing as many 3k frame videos as possible before the inevitable cloud arrives. The motor driven etalon tuning is working but I may need to choose another drive hole in the internal sector.

11.45 More cloud interrupting capture.  Nice prom at 2 o'clock buy keep losing it to cloud. 640x480 with 2x WO Barlow at 120fps. There is some nice detail but fleeting.

Still struggling with the new iMPPG. The surface image right shows how little progress I am making. I am seeing very similar detail [or better] on the monitor during a capture. It just doesn't appear in the final image. I have to give up on Registax despite it being my preference to AS!2. AS!3 wouldn't work at all so I had to revert to AS!2. Registax crashed every single time I tried to use 'Align.' I reloaded it umpteen times without any improvement. Now I can't  even use 'Wavelets.'

13:15 Back in for lunch and to warm up. I have been transferring video files from the laptop SSD to the 1T T5 external SSD. Even at 300Mbps its a slow process. Then the laptop needs to be cleaned with CCleaner before I regain the overfull SSD on the laptop. Saving the capture videos to the external SSD worked fine at first but it soon forgot to do it.
