Sunday 4th 39F, very heavy overcast and breezy.

I finally have the top half of the observation slit cut out. What's next? Try more mock-ups of the slit ribs? Check the curves of the slit cut-out? I still have to mark out the spare segment for the shutters.

The slit ribs will be half in and half outside the dome's surface. Not fully projecting as shown here in mock-up. I can't get far enough away from the dome to take reasonable photographs without standing in the prickly hedge.

I have discovered that the metre wide slit cut-out will provide closure patches. Of the spherical triangles on either side of the slit ribs. Matching the facets may be more difficult. These may need to be vertical. It may be better to make a feature of this area. Rather than pretending it doesn't exist. There will also be offcuts from the shutter segment. Which may be a better match if there is enough material.

The plan was to fix the slit ribs to the dome with galvanized, angle brackets. Drilling through the dome to fix these brackets risks leakage around the screws. I haven't found any cheap rubber or silicone washers online yet. So may have to make my own. I have a quite a large hole punch in my collection. Plus hole punch pliers and several square yards of rubber, pond liner offcuts. So I could mass produce my own rubber washers. To go under the heads of the fixing bolts.
