5.03.2020 More moonshine.

Thursday 5th evening was clear with the moon high overhead. Not an opportunity to be missed. It was cool at 37F with a south easterly breeze.

The seeing was atrocious! With thermal agitation like boiling water covering the monitor images.

The first image is via AS!3, iMPPG and PF7. Not a popular area for lunar sightseeing but I liked the texture of the mountains. Though I struggled to contain the sharpening to avoid an artificial look.

The second image of the Plato region was even more difficult. The texture of the "rough ground" could easily fall into the over-processed trap. The original still image from AS!3 was 640x480 but I enlarged it slightly. There is the hint of craterlets in Plato but not confirmed.

The third image of the Clavius area is very rich in detail. Adding to
it with any sharpening will make it look like awful. Sugar coating does not suit lunar shots in my humble opinion. Better to draw back from optimum rather than exceed it.

The original videos were encrusted with thermal "fuzziness." It is amazing how well AS!3 and iMPPG can cut through the atmospheric "crud" to find what lies beneath.

I was deliberately keeping exposures as short as possible and capturing 3000 frames. Making the frame size 640x480 is limiting but allows very high frame rates. 800x600 is arguably better and provides a larger picture area.
