7.6.20

7.06.20 Early sunshine gone.

Sunday 7th 62/58F Sunny and breezy start with increasing cloud. Early seeing conditions quite steady.

10.20. Have been capturing videos of the solar AR for an hour in expectation of trying an animation.

Now it is cloudy I am free to experiment a little.
The mounting is not perfectly aligned according to the image drift on SharpCap. I have been trying the feature tracking and it and I have really struggled to contain drift. With constant manual adjustment on the paddle.

I even have added 10kg to the lower PA to try and give it enough bias to sink. Or at least feel as if it is following the very slack turnbuckle instructions. The altitude pivot nuts are loosened. Why doesn't the PA move up and down?

Success! The PA finally moved to follow the turnbuckle. Wind is becoming a serious problem. It is blowing through the slit and moving the telescope. The seeing has deteriorated as well. Might as well continue to fine tune the mounting and see if it will track through the clouds. Nope! Another day at the office shortened by cloud.

At least I proved that SharpCap can track a sunspot. With 160+ other location points registered. 😎
