17.05.2021 Trammel, trammel, trammel.

Monday 17th 50F, overcast again.  Possible showers. Possible sunny periods. It was mostly sunny later in the morning.

Today I shall use the router to more accurately trim the plywood arcs which I sawed out yesterday. Weather permitting, of course.

Once set up it is routine to use the router on one edge. I take three cuts using the turret depth stop. I pull the sawn arc forwards against the router bit. Then screw the arc to the supporting crossbar. Check the other end hasn't moved, screw it down and then sweep out the arc with the router. It only takes a few seconds and gives very clean results.

The old, plywood dome is looking rather shabby. The paint has been steadily flaking off. I have no idea what to do with it once I have the other dome in place. It seems a shame to break it up. Somebody might want it. Though they would have to splurge for coating it with fibreglass.

Not inexpensive, to do, but you'd get a larger dome than the commercial offerings for a fraction of the price. 3m or 10' diameter. Best to do GRP work down on the ground in summer. When the surface is fully and safely accessible and temperatures match those demanded by the polyester resin.
