16.6.21

16.06.2021 AR12833 in much better seeing conditions!

 *

Wednesday 16th 66/67F Clear sky, windy, warm, bright and sunny. A busy morning doing chores shading the greenhouse for the coming heatwave.

12.30 ASCOM[AWR] had changed Dec Direction overnight. So it tried to go through the pier to reach the sun a few degrees above the parking spot.

Corrected it, slewed manually back park, Home refused to work. Synced to parking place and LST. First slew to the sun still missed by miles. Telescope shadows were long ovals.

I have lost yesterday's very even, sweet spot. The etalon needs tuning again.

 12.47. Better?

13.00 Lunch.

15.00 72/68F, breezy with increasing cloud.

Experimenting with ImPPG.

The first image shows 1.36 for Sigma amount.

The second shows 2 for Sigma Amount.

15.50 74/69F The seeing is holding up well despite the warmth, breeze and thin, high cloud.

15.59  More of the same.

An experimental image captured with a 2x Orion Shorty Barlow in front of the camera. [No GPC]

The seeing has to be exceptional to avoid softness and thermal agitation. There was some of both but not enough to completely spoil the image. I pushed it hard in ImPPG to bring out the detail. So it is slightly over-sharpened. It is not easy to notice the difference in scale until you compare the large filament to the left [west of] the AR with that on the other images.

18.00 Thicker cloud is spoiling the late afternoon.

The forecast is for a three day heatwave from tomorrow. With temperatures over 28C.

18.31 cloud cleared.

18.56 The trees finally intervened.

The image on the monitor had been almost steady and fairly transparent.

The detail is astonishing without the need for over-sharpening.
