This blog has become my ATM design, build and imaging diary. I have recently built several new telescopes, a large equatorial mounting and a raised 10' [3m] dome on an octagonal building. Wednesday 7th 64F, bright but windy and rather cloudy. The seeing thermally mobile and soft. Making focusing accurately rather hit and miss. Thin high cloud is racing across the monitor screen. I really ought to rebuild my motor focuser for the 2.5" FT. It was made for the 3.5" on the 7" so may not fit.

9.50 A false start when the etalon showed banding instead of even brightness across the frame.

10.07 There is still some brightness and darkness in the corners.

10.18 Still struggling with etalon tuning. I re-tightened the holding ring but it didn't help. Reduced the frame size to 600x600.

Then I rotated the Lunt B1200S2 blocking filter. The effect was dramatic! A dark bar rotated with the BF!

Now the clouds are blocking the sun so I can't continue to experiment.

Some clearance allowed a change to the PST BF5.

This showed no bar effect and had far greater light throughput.

11.07. Tried for the proms with the PST BF.

14.30 AR12840 in white light from the 6" without all the H-a filters. I used the Lacerta 2" wedge and the 2x GPC for more scale.
