12.08.2021 Glass fibre work begins + imaging.

Thursday 12th 75F, breezy with sunny periods.

I made a start on fibre-glassing the slit ribs to the inside of the dome. Abraded first with coarse paper on an orbital sander and tried the multi-tool. Finished off with a soft sanding block and final rinse with acetone.

One rib has a 1st layer of 300g CSM matt. 80mm up the rib and 80mm over the inside of the dome. With four layers at top and bottom for extra reinforcement.

I used ½ kg polyester resin up to lunch. More to follow this afternoon on the other rib. It is 75F. Hotter still in the dome! I pulled the clear tarpaulin right back to let the air in. I had forgotten how smelly polyester resin really is.

Afternoon and the second slit rib has first lay-up. Despite much less hardener being used the bottom of the pot went off before I had finished. Probably the heat. The sweat was dripping off me in my disposable boiler suit. I was working overhead.  So the visor was essential to keep the resin out of my eyes.

17.00. I shall try imaging after a cup of tea. It is breezy from a roughly, southerly direction. Soft clouds are moving from the SE.

I captured dozens of images with only a few cloud crossings at first.

Thin high cloud gradually spoilt the clarity later on. Last capture about 18.45[CET]  when the trees blocked the sun.
