Saturday: A trip to town in the morning provided more protective gear and rubber washers. I have given up trying to recycle rubber gloves. A fresh pair avoids picking up loads of glass strands before I even start.
After lunch I completed two more layers of 300gm/m² of CSM on the first slit rib. So they have each had several layers now. With lots of extra layers on the top and bottom sections of about a foot each. [30cm]
That should help to hold it all together. I have a good idea how far the resin goes in terms of coverage now. Working with a ½ litre at a time lets me do two layers of glass mat per rib. With plenty to spare for reinforcing the ends. 2 litres down and one left from my order. I ought to order more to be sure of enough for the glassing the outside and the zenith board.
I spoke to a builder about heavy lifting today. He warned me away from using a hired Manitou [telescopic loader] myself. It would need lots of practice to lift and precisely place a large object like a dome.
It seems the usual arrangement is to employ a builder's delivery lorry fitted with a crane. The driver is using the crane on an almost daily basis. To deliver a wide range of items to building sites, farms, etc. So they have lots of experience with different loads and conditions.
The problem is the lack of access to get a lorry anywhere near the back garden. A car is no problem but even a modestly sized lorry is much wider than the narrow drive past the house.
