2.10.2021 Big green pea waving!

 *

Saturday 2nd 53F,  heavy overcast with rain possible.

Just for fun I sat on a bit of foam, on the ground, right at the back of the dome. I was hoping to get a better sense of the sheer scale of the new dome, soaring high overhead.

Then I realized that the dome's base ring would be at around eye level once it was mounted on its rollers. [On top of the 4m high building.]

So the height of my body, from the ground up to eye level [~85cm] had to be added to the scene. It is very difficult to capture the true size with the camera. Even with a wide angle lens [12mm MFT 25mm FF] my eyes see a much larger area than this image.

To the naked eye, the shutters appeared to be many yards away from my viewpoint. Absolutely dwarfing my present 10' [3m] dome. Which often seems too cramped for my telescopes. The lack of projecting, internal ribs further extends the usable, free space inside "the big green pea."  Now jokingly referred to as Sun Grazer Observatory. With a nod to the calves which usually enjoy this hemispherical accommodation.

A trip into town provided plenty of yellow wedges to complete the project.
