Sunday 3rd 58F, mild, with gales and rain.
I must admit I have been putting off gluing the base ring together. It's sheer size, weight and flexibility has not prompted a ready solution to its support. The "picket fence" of battens, which I hammered into the ground, only works up to a point. Sadly it offers little real security or accuracy of level.
My collection of eight, caravan parking jacks are too tall unless I lift the entire dome by a foot or more. That is not going to happen. I could dig holes and bury the jack frames to a suitable depth to actually become useful. Reburying the base frames would provide the missing stability due to their small footprint. Boards in the bottoms of the holes would also help the cause. Have I finally come up with the solution to the support and fine adjustment problem while the ring glue sets?
The jacks could be used over the arc of the dome skirt furthest from the ground. I can stack scraps of 2x4s and 2x6s over the lowest sections of the skirt. Where the smaller gap is most easily bridged.
The eight jacks were perfect for supporting the ring. They were too tall for the skirt but the base ring is considerably higher. I had overlooked this until I actually tried.
I am finally going to hang up an LED work lamp. So I can see what I am doing in the gloom of the dome. In fact I had three compact florescent work lights hidden away. As soon as I connected them I quickly remembered how dim they were. A worthless technology. Bordering on fraud when it came to supposed comparisons with incandescent bulbs.
