23.3.20

23.3.20 Milky sky and thin cloud.

*

Monday23rd.Overnight frost 28F.

Promised a sunny day but the sky is milky with thin cloud spoiling the steady seeing.

10.30 41/40F. Cold SE wind blowing straight into the dome. Image veiled on the monitor.m Just like noise. Almost impossible to discern the proms!

Nothing obvious on the disk yet.

11.00 42/40F The increasing wind is shaking the telescope a little
now.

12.00 Still milky sky with low contrast on proms. This is a fascinating prom! [Right] Almost like a flame. There is too much wind to capture a "close-up."

After lunch the wind was even stronger and swinging between SE and SW. Straight into the open dome.

By 16.00 the wind had died down but now the sun's limb was "boiling" furiously.

The last image [right] shows long filaments near the eastern limb. Visible on the live image on the monitor but not well captured here.
