2.03.2021 Roller stands R'Us.

 *

Tuesday 2nd 33F, thick mist and overcast. Sunshine later in the afternoon.

My saw table rollers arrived today. I quickly assembled them ready for use. They seem quite sturdy for the small outlay. Now I can have another go at bevelling some more 2x4 uprights.

My hands felt sprained after dragging the heavy lengths of timber over supporting blocks of wood. Hopefully the rollers will greatly reduce the effort required. They are easily adjusted for height. Which my old [and secondhand] B&D workbenches can't. Clamping planks in the jaws provides some adjustment.

The roller stands proved to be just what I needed. The ground wasn't level so they wobbled from side to side. Though not enough to stop me bevelling all the uprights. Getting the table saw level on slabs proved to be a useful ploy. It helped to keep the timber up against the fence.

I then cut up the remaining lengths of 2x4 to make more cross braces. Finally I could assemble the rest of the frames and walk them up to the building. There was some heaving and dragging to get them all arranged around the building.

Lifting the frames into the steelwork shoes without dropping them outwards added some further entertainment. Now I have run out of clamps! Eek!

I still have to shorten the upright posts at the rear of the building. Still
thinking how best to go about it. Plenty more cross braces need be added. I can't add the eastern braces until the plywood cladding is stripped off the octagon. Which I wont do until the larger building is fully clad and sealed. Security, weatherproofing and keeping vermin at bay come first.

The lower viewpoint seems to give a better sense of the sheer scale of the larger building. Four metres in diameter x four meters high to the top ring. Which, once a laminated plywood ring is added, will eventually support the new dome's rotation rollers. While simultaneously providing serious reinforcement at the top of the building.

The new dome itself will be 4.3m/14' in diameter. The present dome measures 3m/10' in diameter plus the add-on skirt.
